For your eyes only

What happens when a child discovers wax crayons, pens, sketch pens, pencils or anything that leaves an imprint when scribbled with? First thing : The walls of your house are smeared and smudged with indecipherable graffiti, are grossly defaced and give you sore eyes.
Similarly, what happens when a jerk who gets an affordable smart phone suddenly turns into a self-announced ‘good’ photographer and starts clicking one silly picture after another and shares them with you compulsively? Your wall gets defaced again; only this time it is on Facebook! 😦
Let me make it clear first. I’m not a good photographer by any standard. I have no knowledge of any of the minute details involved in photography like lighting, using zooms etc. I don’t have the patience or motivation to carry some advanced camera with me either.
I’m happy clicking pictures on my phone, and I know the limitations that come with it too. There are lots of things I can and cannot do with the settings, and mostly I’m fine with it. The pictures are for my personal collection and are to be shared only with the people I want to.
Suddenly though, I see a strange trend emerging. People click pictures of anything that catches their fancy and feel compelled to share their (in)expertise with everyone in all types of social media. They’re desperate enough to claim and expect your reaction too.
I’m not saying no one is good. Some of them are as perfect in their work as professionals are, but such people are very few. I look forward for more stuff from them, don’t mind asking for tips from them and truly respect their art.
I think originality and creativity come with passion and perseverance, regardless of which field we’re talking about. Wish people understood the difference between a true hobby and an only-for-sharing passing hobby phase.

What a dilemma!

Writing a post on A Jr after a long time, and after reading this you’ll know why this HAD to be written. When he grows up A Jr will probably blush a beetroot red when he reads this.

I’m logged on to Facebook on my phone while A Jr is talking non-stop in the background about something I have lost track of. After many Uh-huhs and Ohs and monosyllable replies from me he realises that I’m not even pretending to listen properly. Upset, he comes to me and starts to fidget with the phone until he sees the picture of a cute baby on the screen.

A Jr: Mamma…ye baby kiska hai?

Me: *Smiling* Meri friend ka hai…cute hai na…

A Jr: *Brushing off* Haan cute hai.

He then proceeds to recollect my every friend he knows of and who has a child. He gives me some names….then some names of cities where they are located…or some gift they got for him….to place who’s child it is. Impressive, but this does not help. He doesn’t know this baby’s mother. I tell him so.

Not one to give up and still on the baby topic, he probes me further.

A Jr: *Seriously* Mamma, B masi ko baby hai kya?

Me: *Wondering where this is going* No beta. B masi ki ab tak shaadi nahi hui hai, unko baby kaise hoga? (I don’t want to get any further with him on this thing. Babies happen only after marriage. Period!) Wo to abhi college jaati hai na. Padhai kar rahi hai.

He’s still not ready to let go. (Big problem with the men in my family!)

A Jr: Oh, accha. Lekin B masi ko shaadi ke liye koi ladka mil gaya kya?

Me: *Rolling eyes* Nahi. Ab tak nahi. Jab padhai khatm hogi tab tak mil jayega.

A Jr: *Masterstroke* Mujhe to lagta hai unko ladka isliye nahi mila kyunki unko ladki milne wali hai shayad. Hai na Mamma?

Mamma’s shocked and speechless! :-/

What can I say? He doesn’t even understand the meaning of what he said, but when he does he’ll probably be embarrassed to face B masi. 😀

Meeting the Blogeshwaris ~ The JCB way!

When it comes to Indiblogeshwaris, there’s nothing I want to miss, ever! The whole bunch is made up of normal ladies with an abnormal and uncanny sense of humour but with an equally matured attitude towards life. It isn’t surprising then that hanging out with them works like therapy and laughing your heart out with them is better than being in a laughing club! 😀

The best gifts are the ones you get when you least expect them. Courtesy of the wonderful Indiblogeshwaris I got pampered and had a great time at this very interesting event which was one (unintended) surprise birthday gift for me in the form of a blogmeet at the Jean Claude Biguine – Salon & Spa in Bandra! 🙂

JCB, for the first time had approached a group of personal bloggers for any such event and it indeed made us feel humble and important. This was a different kind of experience for them, as well as us, and I was really looking forward to know what they had in store for us.

Minor glitches like; me having a small fight with the autowala for taking me around in circles, walking around in the sun clueless of where I was going and almost getting lost, and being on the phone with Vinita all the while and taking confusing directions from her, were a thing of the past as soon as I reached JCB. Boy, was I glad to see the board or what! 😀 😛

I was smiling from ear the ear within minutes when I saw the lovely ladies Janaki Sfurti and Kajal all enveloped in a warm cocoon of indulgence! Someone was getting a manicure and kept a hand free to hold a glass of wine, while someone was in a half-dozed state after a relaxing pedicure. Best of all though was our girl Piya who was getting a head massage and was lost in a completely different world! 🙂

Quick introductions with the new girls, and I was ready for my turn. I figured I’d go for a pedicure. To be honest, this was the first time I got my feet done by a guy and it felt strange at first. I laughed to myself when he complained that my chudidar (which wouldn’t slide up much) just wouldn’t give him enough room to show his skills! Whatever he could, he did a good job of it though. I was spoilt for choice with the whole palette of nail colours to choose from and eventually selected a daring green. Check it out! 😉 😉

Fashion, beauty and gossip were at topmost priority and all of us had a great time sharing small tips and experiences with each other. Alongside, we had the JCB kitchen getting us full on Nachos and Sandwiches. Wine and champagne were keeping all the ladies happy while few of them were intoxicated too.

All of us are a happy clicking lot, but we were also lucky to have a professional photographer between us who obliged us all with lovely group photos and even individual photos. I’m sure the other customers found our exuberance quite baffling.

The meet winded up on time and while we were all preparing to leave there was another surprise thing. Our lovely hostess Aishwarya who was hanging out with us and is a lot of fun, had arranged some return gifts for us! After a fun afternoon this was certainly an ‘Icing on Top’! 🙂

This meet was of, for and by women and that’s what made it all the more special! Our blogs are an extension of us, and in that respect our blog friends are like an extension of our relationships. It is amazing how much we look forward to these events and how the distance or the commute don’t bother us. I enjoyed myself thoroughly and JCB sure pampered us silly. They’re wonderful hosts and great at turning you around. Do visit them sometime. 🙂
